The Rockin Redhead

The Rockin Redhead is a family-run hair salon in the middle of Cherokee Antique Row, and one of the businesses that makes this a street people live on rather than only shop on.

The salon is owned by Ashley, who has a following built on cut and colour in equal measure and on the sort of attention to detail that keeps clients coming back for years rather than seasons. It is a small room, and the service is personal in the way that only a shop with one chair-holder’s name on it can be.

Alongside the salon chairs there is a boutique – a small, carefully chosen retail corner rather than the usual rack of shampoo. The most local product on the shelves is honey, produced by the beehives Ashley’s husband keeps. It is difficult to think of a more Cherokee Street detail than buying your neighbour’s honey at the hairdresser.

The Rockin Redhead sits at 1960 Cherokee Street, at the western end of the Row among the antique shops and vintage dealers.
