This policy describes what happens to information about you when you visit cherokeeantiquerow.net. It is short because the site does little: it is a directory of shops on one street, it sells nothing, and it has no accounts to sign up for.
Who runs this site
Cherokee Antique Row, at cherokeeantiquerow.net. The site is maintained on a volunteer basis. Write to [email protected] with any question about this policy, or to ask that information about you be removed.
What we do not do
There are no accounts and no registration. There is no newsletter and no comment section. Nothing is sold here and no payment details are ever handled. We do not sell, rent or trade information about visitors, and we do not run advertising.
Visit statistics
We use Google Analytics to count how many people visit and which pages they read. It tells us that a page was opened, roughly where in the world from, and what kind of device and browser was used. It does not tell us who you are, and we make no attempt to find out.
Analytics is switched off until you allow it. On your first visit a notice asks whether you agree; until you answer, and if you answer no, no analytics cookie is placed on your device and Google cannot recognise you from one visit to the next. If you agree, a cookie is stored so that repeat visits are counted as one person rather than several.
Your answer is remembered in your browser’s local storage, not in a cookie, so that refusing does not itself require storing one. You can change your mind at any time with the “Analytics settings” link at the foot of every page. Withdrawing consent deletes the analytics cookie from your device as well as stopping any further use of it. Clearing your browser’s site data for cherokeeantiquerow.net erases both the answer and the analytics cookie.
Google Analytics is operated by Google, which processes this data on servers that may be outside your country. Google does not store the full IP address of visitors to Analytics 4 properties. Their own account of what they collect is in the Google Privacy Policy. You can also refuse Analytics on every site at once with Google’s browser opt-out add-on.
The contact form
The form on our About us page asks for a name, an email address, what the message is about, and the message itself. We use them to read your message and to reply to it, and for nothing else. They are not added to any mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
What you send arrives with us two ways: by email to the address above, and stored on this site so a message is not lost if the mail fails. Submissions are kept while they are useful and deleted once they are dealt with; ask us and we will delete yours sooner. The form is handled entirely on our own server, and nothing typed into it is sent to any third party.
The form carries a hidden field that people never see and automated spam usually fills in. It stores nothing on your device, and we have deliberately not used a captcha, which would mean sending your visit to another company before you could write to us.
Maps
Pages carrying a map — the home page, Eats, Stay, and each shop and event page — draw the map itself from OpenStreetMap. Loading those map images means your browser contacts servers run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which necessarily sees your IP address, as any website you contact does. This happens because the map is part of the page, not because you clicked anything. Their terms are in the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Nothing about which shop you looked at is sent to them: they serve the map tiles for an area, and that is all.
Links away from this site
We link to the shops’ own websites and social media, to bus timetables, to a taxi company, and to mapping and calendar services when you ask for directions or want an event in your diary. Following any of those takes you to somebody else’s site, under somebody else’s policy. We have no control over what they collect, and no link is followed unless you choose it.
Server records
Like nearly every website, ours runs on a server that keeps routine logs of requests — the address requested, the time, the IP address it came from, and the browser that asked. These exist to keep the site running and to investigate faults and abuse. They are not used to build any picture of individual visitors and are not combined with the visit statistics above.
Information about businesses
The directory lists businesses, not people: trading name, street address, opening hours and the contact details each business publishes for customers. Where an entry is wrong, out of date, or you would rather it were not here at all, write to [email protected] and we will correct or remove it.
Photographs and text
Much of what is on these pages — descriptions, historical notes and photographs — has been gathered from sources that were already public: the businesses’ own websites and social media, public records, and material published about the street over the years. We use it to describe the Row, we do not claim it as our own, and we credit it wherever we know who to credit.
If a photograph or a piece of writing here is yours and you would rather it were not, write to [email protected] or use the contact form, telling us which page it is on and which image you mean. We will take it down. You do not need to prove ownership to us first or explain why — this is a volunteer directory of one street, and nothing on it is worth a dispute.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything about them.
Changes
If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date below moves. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest way to tell.
