LA Terraza Mexican Restaurant

La Terraza is a Mexican restaurant and bar at the eastern end of Cherokee Street, in the stretch where the street’s Mexican businesses are concentrated and where the food is as good a reason to walk east as the antiques are to stay west.

The kitchen serves traditional Mexican cooking across a broad menu – birria quesadillas are among the dishes people come back for, alongside a long list of burritos, plates and the rest. Portions and prices are set for a neighbourhood restaurant rather than a destination one, which is exactly what it is.

Weekend brunch runs Friday through Sunday in the middle of the day, done Mexican-style rather than as an imported American format, and it fills the room. Friday nights bring karaoke into the evening, with a cocktail list that goes rather further than the food menu suggests.

The restaurant takes reservations, does delivery and take-out, and the premises are wheelchair accessible – worth noting on a street of nineteenth-century storefronts where that cannot be assumed.

La Terraza sits at 2737 Cherokee Street, a good walk east of Cherokee Antique Row, in the part of the street that rewards anyone who keeps going past the last antique shop.
