Zephyr Bar + Salon

Zephyr Bar + Salon does two things in one room, and does them at different hours: it is a hair salon and it is a bar, sharing the same premises on Cherokee Street.

The arrangement is more sensible than it first sounds. A salon needs daylight hours and a bar needs evenings, so the space works twice over rather than sitting dark half the time. The bar keeps the longer week, open every day but Tuesday; the salon runs Wednesday to Saturday. In practice the two overlap pleasantly – a drink while the colour develops is entirely normal here.

On the salon side the work is cutting, colouring and deep conditioning, with appointments taken by telephone or through the online booking system. On the bar side it is a neighbourhood bar, and it is treated as one by the people who live around it.

Zephyr stands at 2303 Cherokee Street, in the heart of Cherokee Antique Row among the antique and vintage shops, and it is one of the businesses that gives this stretch of the street its habit of doing things slightly differently.
